Reindeer are the subject of this week’s installment of the Varmints podcast! Head on up to the frozen tundra with two nerds named Paul as they talk about a certain red-nosed member of the species, Disney’s “Frozen” and a very disturbing but ancient practice! Along the way you might just learn a thing or two about these fascinating creatures!
Here’s some stuff we referenced on the show:
First, here’s the article that Paul Wilk referenced on climate change’s effect on the reindeer! Not the most hilarious thing we could have kicked off the new format with, but there you go. This is a work in progress, people! Bear with us!
Next, here’s the video that Paul Csomo referenced! Turn your volume WAY up! You’ll hear the clicking of hundreds of reindeer knees! Courtesy of YouTube user MinInMongolia:
How is this even allowed? It’s the full 1964 Rankin-Bass “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” movie! It’s been on YouTube for over a year, so it must be okay. Enjoy! Courtesy of YouTube user Slaughter Player:
The delightful tune from the movie “Frozen”, “Reindeer(s) Are Better Than People”. Introverts unite! But separately. In your own homes. Please. Courtesy of YouTube user FrozenSongsHD:
While we found no evidence of reindeer in the meat section of a supermarket, reindeer products are a thing and can be bought somewhere.
Finally, a video that’s sure to keep every man’s legs crossed for at least three days. This is how Sami herders have done it for centuries. This isn’t a bloody, graphic video but it still might be tough to watch. Courtesy of YouTube user National Geographic:
